Guy Lies to Police About Kidnapped Child So They’ll Find His Stolen Car

Motivation can be a wonderful thing; it can lit a fire under someone and get things done. That said, maybe you shouldn’t try to “motivate” the police like this!

22-year-old Marcus Fletcher told Philadelphia Police that he was a pizza delivery driver and about 10:35 p.m. Monday his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint. Scary stuff to be sure, especially since this wasn’t his first time being robbed.

BTW, this is NOT a viable excuse to stiff you pizza guy!

But what made matters even more terrifying is that this time around, Fletcher said his 4-year-old nephew was in the back seat of his green 1995 Ford Escort! Police got right to work and conducted an intense search, soon finding the car parked. It was locked, but unoccupied. Detectives went back to interview Fletcher, hoping for any details that could help find the missing boy. But that’s where things got wonky. The delivery driver started giving conflicting accounts of the robbery, and was even unable to provide a detailed description of the child–his own nephew!–or his parents.

Description? Uh. Short? Big…er…nose? Wooden expression?

Then Fletcher finally spilled the beans: he admtted that he lied about the nephew! He told detectives he had been robbed before and was unsatisfied with the resulting investigation. ”Therefore he made up the aforementioned story to watch the police work harder,” according to a statement. His two assailants had only actually made off with his wallet with ID and credit cards, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and $30 in cash.

Does it take a zombie apocalypse to find a trustworthy delivery guy???

Fletcher was charged with making a false report and the robbery is still under investigation. Good luck getting the police to help you next time around! He might need to brush up on a little story called The Boy Who Cried Wolf–maybe he could read it to his fake nephew!
