The National Weather Service trying to confirm that flashing lights and a loud boom heard last night in Southeast Michigan was a meteor. Dave Gurney, a Meteorologist from the National Weather Service office in White Lake, spoke to WPHM this morning, saying the rock entered the Earth’s atmosphere, creating a sonic boom that shook houses and lit up the sky across the region. The United States Geological Survey detected a magnitude 2.0 earthquake at the time, the epicenter about five miles southwest of New Haven. Authorities still trying to locate the potential impact points of the meteorites. The rare objects can be quite valuable, with a one pound meteorite valued at about a million dollars.
