Animal control duties in St. Clair County will be shifting from Sheriff Tim Donnellon to a new director of animal control. County commissioners last week decided to open a search for a new head of animal control. This includes the county’s animal shelter on Griswold Road in Port Huron Township. Greg McConnell, county commissioner from Capac, says it will allow the Sheriff to focus solely on law enforcement. McConnell, speaking to WPHM on Friday, praised Donnellon on the department’s handling of the Animal Control division. He says the sheriff has been heading the department since 2010 and the county commission has been considering hiring a separate director for several years now. County administrator Karry Hepting is responsible for hiring a new individual to head St. Clair County Animal Control.
