Council approves new fire truck, purchase of vacant lot

The Port Huron Fire Department will be the recipient of a new ladder truck. Approved unanimously last night by the Port Huron City Council, the city will purchase a new $820,000 truck from the Sutphen Corporation, using funds from the city’s motor vehicle and general fund. Also last night, council decided to move ahead with the purchase of new signage for the exterior of McMorran Place and the purchase of a parcel near the city’s industrial park. The vacant lot, located at 3000 Dove Street, is valued at $125,000 dollars and could be used for future industrial use.

Several items on the agenda for the Port Huron City Council who meets in a regular session meeting this evening. City Manager James Freed is asking council members to approve a proposal for a new fire truck to be used by the Port Huron Fire Department. The $820,000 ladder truck would be purchased using funds from the city’s general fund and motor vehicle fund. Council is also expected to take action on a bid to install four outdoor entrance signs at McMorran Place for approximately $8,200. A first reading of an ordinance will be held this evening to re-zone a vacant lot in the 1900 block of 24th street from residential to light industrial. Originally planned to have its second reading tonight was an ordinance that would set a consistent closing time for city parks, beaches, and pools. City Manager James Freed says that item will be tabled until January. Port Huron City council meets at 7:00 p.m. tonight at the Municipal Office Center.
