A local Michigan house of representatives district could be re-drawn sooner than expected if a settlement is reached between the state of Michigan in a gerrymandering suit. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is proposing the redrawing of eleven state house districts in the state including the 32nd district, currently held by Republican Pamela Hornberger. The district includes 7 townships in St. Clair County and two municipalities in Macomb County. If redrawn, it could have impacts on neighboring districts as well, such as the 81st and 83rd state house districts held by Gary Eisen and Shane Hernandez, respectively. The lawsuit was filed by the Michigan League of Women Voters and is not related to proposal 2 which was passed by voters last year and would call for an independent commission to draw legislative lines starting in 2022.
