Joe Nathan got his 21st save by striking out the side in the ninth. Nick Castellanos had two hits and two RBI, while Ian Kinsler also knocked in two runs. Game two of the series is Friday night.
The Detroit Tigers acquired right handed relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. In the deal Detroit sent pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson to the Rangers. Soria has pitched seven years in the majors and has 177 career saves and has struck out more hitters than he has pitched innings. Soria has a club option on his current contract
Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson, and Alex Avila all drove in three runs each, as the Detroit Tigers crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-5 on Wednesday afternoon. Rajai Davis added three hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who open a four game series in Los Angeles on Thursday night against the Angels.
