The Detroit Tigers were three outs away from heading back to the American League Championship Series, leading in Oakland 3-1. But the upstart A's shocked the Tigers with three runs off Jose Valverde in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 4-3 and force a fifth and deciding game in their best-of-five playoff series. Prince Fielder had a home run, while Austin Jackson and Avisail Garcia added RBI hits to put the Tigers in the lead. But Seth Smith belted a game tying two run double before scoring the winning run on a Coco Crisp single. Game five will be played Thursday night in Oakland.
