BE READY FOR WINTER 2013

We've already seen our first taste of winter, with a few flakes flying around, but, be honest... are you really ready for winter?  This week marks Winter Hazards Awareness Week, with the focus on preparation and having emergency supplies on hand.  Rich Pollman at the National Weather Service office says the long range predictions for our coming winter say it's going to be pretty average. That means temperatures can be expected to be colder than the past couple of winters and a chance for more snow too as prior recent winters have been warmer than the average. Pollman says in getting ready for the coming winter, the first step is to stay ahead of the weather.  He says generally in winter there's at least 48-hours notice that a large size storm is on the way, unlike the summer months when severe weather is harder to predict.  As for supplies, he says take the time now to set aside a first aid kit, a battery powered radio, flashlights, extra batteries, matches, blankets or sleeping bags, as well as warm clothes and non-perishable food.
