For the second year in a row the Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera has won the American League Most Valuable Player award. He is the first Tiger player since Hal NewHouser in 1944 and 1945 to win the award in consecutive seasons. Cabrera won his third straight batting title this year, hitting .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBI. He recieved 23 of a possible 30 first place votes. It is the third year in a row a Tiger has won MVP, with Justin Verlander taking the award in 2011.
