Port Huron Township the scene Friday for a ribbon cutting ceremony held to celebrate the completion of Phase One of the CN Rail separation near the intersection of Michigan Road and Griswold. Port Huron Township Fire Chief Craig Miller tells us the work will allow emergency crews and vehicles get to their destinations much faster, and that's important when it comes to saving lives or responding to dangerous situations. Kirk Weston at the St. Clair County Road Commission says work was very needed, especially with that intersection having been the scene of many long back-ups. He says the Road Commission is also ready to start on another job next year in the same area, a reconstruction of nearly a mile-length stretch of Dove Street, about a half-mile both east and west of Michigan Road. Weston says state and federal aid has been secured for the project, which is expected to wrap up in 2015. As for Michigan, and not far from the new bridge, state crews are replacing another bridge at I-69.
