Just two days after losing the American League Championship series to the Boston Red Sox, Jim Leyland has stepped down as manager of the Detroit Tigers. In eight seasons with Detroit the Tigers went 700-597 under Leyland and had six winning seasons. Detroit won the Central Division three times, made the post season four times, and won the Pennant twice, but lost both times they made a World Series appearance. Leyland is third all time in team history in wins, behind only Sparky Anderson and Hughie Jennings. Leyland will remain with the orginization in a as yet unnamed position and no succesor at manager has been named yet.
