The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office says, a 74-year-old Port Austin man had to be taken to a Bad Axe-area hospital Tuesday, after a one-vehicle crash in Evergreen Township. The House Education Committee in Lansing has approved legislation that would require certain students not reading proficiently, in the third grade, to repeat third grade. Under the compromise proposal, improved reading courses earlier in grade school would be required which should better prepare 3rd graders.

Drivers are finding average gas prices have dropped about 11-cents a gallon this week. AAA -Michigan says the state's current average is at $3.22 a gallon, just over 24-cents less than this same time from last year. Officials say last week's increase was due to holiday demand. Some local pumps now are below $3.10 a gallon.
