The last scheduled Adopt-A-Highway trash pickup of 2014 in Michigan is set for this weekend. The Fall pickup begins Saturday and will run through September 28th and the Michigan Department of Transportation says there is still time to pitch in and volunteer. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donellon testified in front of a legislative committee last week in support of a bill that attempts to clamp down on so-called drugged driving. The bill was introduced by local State Representative Dan Lauwers, with it being approved by a Senate Committee. Gas prices decreased, AAA Michigan reports. Michigan’s current statewide average is $3.49 per gallon, down about 12 cents from last week and about 6 cents less than this same time last year.  Metro Detroit gas prices also decreased. The current average there is $3.52 per gallon, about 7 cents less than last week and about 5 cents less than this same time last year.

The Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Friday for the reopening of the Blue Water Habitat for Humanity store.  The ReStore is now located at 3524 Pine Grove having moved in from Marysville. The new site is the former Farmer Jack grocery store.
The Detroit Tigers blew a six run lead on Monday night, but used back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning from Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera to beat the Minnesota Twins 8-6 in the first game of a three game series.  Kyle Ryan pitched to one batter in the eight and got a double play to earn the win for the Tigers, while Joakim Soria picked up his first save as a Tiger.  Game two
Ian Kinsler and JD Martinez each hit a home run and knocked in two runs on Sunday, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 6-4 to sweep a three game series at Comerica Park.  The win moves the Tigers a game and a half ahead of Kansas City in the Central Division.  The Tigers start a three game series in Minnesota on Monday.
The Detroit Lions had three turnovers and missed two field goals on Sunday in a 24-7 loss at Carolina to the Panthers.  The loss puts Detroit at 1-1 on the season.  Jed Collins had the lone Lions touchdown on a pass from Matt Stafford, who passed for 291 yards in the game.  Detroit is home to Green Bay next week.
Alex Avila hit a go ahead two run home run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night.  The win allowed the Tigers to stay in first place in the Central by a half game over Kansas City.  Victor Martinez also had a home run for Detroit, who goes for a series sweep over the Indians on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.
Derrick Green rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns, as Michigan pulled away from Miami of Ohio in the second half and won 34-10 on Saturday in Ann Arbor.  Devin Gardner added 184 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Wolverines, who will play host to Utah next Saturday.
Jarrett Mathison scored four touchdowns to lead the Marine City Mariners to a 38-23 win over the Marysville Vikings on Friday night.  Mathison rushed for 133 yards and three scores and also had 96 yards recieving and a score.   Trevor Quandt added 117 yards rushing and a touchdown.  The Vikings Phill Griffor passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
David Price pitched into the eighth inning to pick up the win, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2 on Friday night.  JD Martinez hit a home run and a triple and drove in four runs for the Tigers, who host Cleveland again on Saturday night at Comerica Park.
James Shields tossed a two hit shutout as the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 3-0 on Wednesday night to move back into the top spot in the Central Division.  Rick Porcello took the loss depite pitching well and allowing only two runs in six plus innings of work with eight strike outs.  The Tigers open a three game series with Cleveland on Friday night at Comerica Park.
Rajai Davis and JD Martinez each hit a home run and knocked in two runs on Tuesday as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 to move into a first place tie in the Central Division.  Max Scherzer earned his 16th win of the season and Joe Nathan got his 30th save for the Tigers, who go for a sweep in the three game series on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
Matthew Stafford threw for 346 yards, two touchdowns, and another score on a five yard run, to lead the Detroit Lions crushed the New York Giants 35-14 in their season opener on Monday night at Ford Field.  Calvin Johnson had two scored and 164 yards recieving, while Golden Tate added 93 yards on six catches.  The Lions play at Carolina next Sunday.
