Good news for motorists this week as the prices at the gas pumps are holding steady, with no real increases on the horizon.  AAA-Michigan says this week's statewide average is about $3.13 per gallon, the same as last week.  The price is also about 35 cents less than this same time last year. Local prices were just over $3.00 a gallon.

The Imlay City boys soccer team advanced to the regional finals on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Saginaw Swan Valley.  The Spartans will play Williamston on Saturday evening.  Two other area teams were eliminated on Tuesday, as Marysville lost 7-0 to Cranbrook, and Memphis fell 1-0 to Harbor Beach.
The Montreal Canadiens scored just 56 seconds into overtime on Tuesday night to beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.  Montreal had tied the score late in the third period to force OT. The Detroit Red Wings swept a home-and-home with the Toronto Maple Leafs, when Henrik Zetterberg scored with 10 seconds left in overtime to give the Wings a 1-0 win at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday night.  In his first start of the season Jonas Gustavsson made 30 saves for the shutout.  Detroit plays in Montreal on Tuesday.
The Detroit Pistons had a huge 4th quarter to come from behind on Saturday night and win in pre-season action in Atlanta, 104-100 over the Hawks.  Andre Drummond had 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Brandon Jenning scored 16 points with 11 assists.  The Pistons close out the pre-season at home on Thursday against Philadelphia.
No. 8 Michigan State shook off a slow start and beat Indiana on Saturday 56-17 in college football action.  Connor Cook passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns for MSU.  Tony Lippett had 123 yards recieving.  The Spartans running game also got in the act as Nick Hill had 178 yards and a touchdown, and Jeremy Langford scored three times on 109 yards rushing.  State is home to

Johan Franzen had two goals and Henrik Zetterberg picked up four assists as the Detroit Red Wings won 4-1 in Toronto on Friday night.  Gustav Nyquist and Justin Abdelkader each added a goal and an assist in the win.  The Wings rematch with the Leafs on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.
The Detroit Pistons suffered just their second loss of the pre-season, falling 99-87 in Orlando on Friday night.  Greg Monroe had 24 points and ten rebounds for the Pistons, who also got 21 points from DJ Augustin.  The Pistons play another pre-season game in Atlanta on Saturday.  In other news, Detroit traded guard Will Bynum to Boston for back up center/forward Joel Anthony.
The Boston Bruins ended a three game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings on Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena.  Tomas Tatar and Gustav Nyquist scored goals for the Wings, who play on the road for the first time this season on Friday, when they travel to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs.
