WSAQ morning host, Chuck Santoni, has spent the last week living on the roof of the Birchwood Mall as a benefit for the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglect Council. The annual event has been going on for nearly two decades now, and Santoni says it draws attention and raises awareness about the plight of abused and neglected children in the local area. They've served the deaf, hard of hearing and disadvantaged families in St. Clair County for several decades... that's the Quota Club International of Port Huron, making a sizeable donation to help others. The local Quota Club has donated over $57,000 this year. Some of the highlights include McMorran Place receiving a $10,000 donation for a Hearing Loop System in the auditorium

City Manager James Freed is looking at several ways to help Port Huron’s finances.  In talking on the Paul Miller show, Thursday, he said incremental increases the past few years for water rates are not helping the city pay down the debt. Cleaning up the St. Clair River was the topic, Thursday, at an environmental symposium at the Double Tree in Port Huron. Patty Troy of the Binational Public Advisory Council says the help of all citizens is needed to keep the river clean. A couple hundred attended Thursday night's Signature Cocktail Contest as sponsored by the McLaren Port Huron Hospital Foundation.  The party, held this year at the Seaway Terminal, was a fundraiser for the upcoming Festival of Trees. The Festival of Trees, now in its 26th year, to be held December 6th and 7th.
 
 
 
More lofts available in Downtown Port Huron, thanks to the transformation of the upper floors, at the Ben's Fine Furniture store.  Half of the 11-lofts have been rented, according to Georgina and Dave Witt who have over 40 lofts in the downtown area.
 
 
As expected 32-year-old Manuel Gamez was sentenced to life in prison, Wednesday, by Saint Clair County Circuit Court Judge Michael West.  That for the killing of Melissa Ichenberg and Daniel McRoberts who were found dead in a Port Huron townhouse in late July of last year.  McRoberts had been stabbed multiple times and Ichenberg was strangled in a case that left four children
 
The St. Clair County Department of Veterans Affairs along with their other partners are getting ready for Operation Veteran Job Readiness, which happens on Friday, at Baker College along Lapeer.  The county's Nancy Deising says the event is part of their Preparing Vets for Success program. The Kansas City Royals avoided a three game sweep with a 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.  Ian Kinsler hit a home run for the Tigers, who lead the Central by a game and a half with seven games to play.  The Tigers open a three game series with the Chicago White Sox on Monday night at Comerica Park.
The Lions defense stopped Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and scored the first nine points of the game for Detroit, in a 19-7 win.  Donald Carey picked up a fumble and returned it 40 yards for the first Lions touchdown.  The Detroit defense followed that with a safety.  Reggie Bush also scored for the Lions on a 26 yard run.  Bush had 61 yards rushing and 38
The Michigan Wolverines fell to (2-2) on the season, losing at home to Utah 26-10 on Saturday.  Willie Henry scored on a seven yard interception return for the lone U of M touchdown in the game.  Michigan opens Big Ten play next Saturday in Ann Arbor against Minnesota.
Another key win for the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, when they called out a 3-2 victory in Kansas City to take a two and a half game lead in the AL Central.  Torii Hunter hit a home run, while Tyler Collins and Rajai Davis had RBI singles to back Max Scherzer to his 16th win of the season.  Joe Nathan got the save, recording the final out with runners at second and third.  The
No. 11 Michigan State rolled to a 49-0 half time lead and crushed Eastern Michigan 73-14 on Saturday in East Lansing.  Delton Williams rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns on just ten carries.  State will host Wyoming next Saturday.
The Detroit Tigers belted out 19 hits and beat the Kansas City Royals 10-1 on Friday night to move a game and a half up in the Central Division.  Ian Kinsler had three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who face the Royals in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three game series.
Tahson Winters retruned a fumble and an interception in the 4th quarter to seal a 37-22 Port Huron High victory over Grosse Pointe South at Memorial Stadium.  DeAngelo Sanderson rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns for PHHS, who improved to (3-1) overall and (3-0) in the MAC-White.
The lowely Minnesota Twins took two out of three from the Detroit Tigers, with an 8-4 win in Minnesota on Wednesday night.  The Tigers lead over Kansas City slipped to a half game as the teams prepare to meet in Kansas City for a three game series that will begin on Friday night.  Miguel Cabrera had four hits, including two doubles, and an RBI in the loss.
Trailing 2-0 going into the ninth, the Detroit Tigers took the lead on a two-out three-run home run from JD Martinez.  However, the Twins came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth off Joe Nathan and beat the Tigers 4-3 on Tuesday night, to end the Tigers four game winning streak.  The teams complete a three game series on Wednesday night in Minnesota.
The Detroit Tigers blew a six run lead on Monday night, but used back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning from Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera to beat the Minnesota Twins 8-6 in the first game of a three game series.  Kyle Ryan pitched to one batter in the eight and got a double play to earn the win for the Tigers, while Joakim Soria picked up his first save as a Tiger.  Game two
