Work on the general fund budget for St. Clair County for the next fiscal year has begun, with expenditures reduced and minimal job loss.  The St. Clair County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the spending plan, during their on the road meeting in Columbus Township, with county Finance Director Karry Hepting saying, at this point in the game, the budget is coming up balanced,

Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in July increased in all of the state’s 17 major labor market regions. According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment levels fell in most regions over the month, while workforce levels grew moderately in the majority of the state’s local areas. The body of the missing Port Huron Float Down participant has been located.  St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says, the body of 19-year old Brady Morton of Fenton was discovered, yesterday afternoon in the St. Clair River, by members of the Sheriff's Office Dive Team.  The find happened around 2:30 p.m., about 45-yards off shore, in about 26-feet of water.

A small tornado knocked over camping trailers and took out a garage roof, early yesterday afternoon, near Richmond.
It was a multiple vehicle chain reaction crash, Wednesday afternoon, that saw traffic backed up along eastbound I-69 at the I-94 exit.  The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office says, the crash happened about 1:20 p.m., with a few people treated for minor injuries and taken to a local hospital.  The crash in the construction zone started with a tractor trailer rear ending a

It's a special session today for the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education.  The purpose of the meeting is to have a workshop session in order to discuss the district's new vision and mission statement, with new Superintendent James Cain now on board.  The board will also discuss goals and objectives and discuss a new superintendent evaluation tool. 
The Secretary of State's mobile office will be on the road, as part of a statewide voter registration drive, visiting colleges and universities. Rick Porcello tossed his third complete game shutout of the season on Wednesday night as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Tampa Bay Rays 6-0 in Tampa.  Porcello held the Rays to three hits and did not walk a batter to win his 14th game of the year.  Victor Martinez hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Tigers.  Detroit goes for a sweep in the three game series on Thursday

The Detroit Tigers made three errors that led to four unearned runs in an 8-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.  Victor Martinez knocked in the only Tigers run as Seattle pitching held Detroit to five hits.  The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday at Tampa Bay.
David Price out dueled Felix Hernandez on Saturday night as the Detroit Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2.  Nick Castellanos had a home run and two RBI to pace a 12 hit Detroit attack.  Price went eight innings and allowed a run on three hits with seven strike outs.  The final game of a three game series is at Comerica Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Oakland Raiders scored the game winning touchdown with six seconds left in the game and beat the Detroit Lions 27-26 in pre-season action on Friday night.  Matthew Stafford threw touchdown passes to Golden Tate and Kris Durham and was 9 of 10 for 88 yards in three drives.  The difference in the game ended up being a missed extra point after the Lions first touchdown of the
The Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 7-2 on Friday night in the opening game of a three game series at Comerica Park.  Ian Kinsler and Victor Martinez knocked in runs for the Tigers, who got two doubles from Miguel Cabrera.  Rick Porcello took the loss, allowing six runs and ten hits in six innings.
Max Scherzer tossed eight shutout innings with a season high 14 strike outs, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 on Thursday.  JD Martinez hit a home run and drove in two runs and Nick Castellanos also knocked in a pair of runs for the Tigers, who open a three game series against Seatle on Friday night at Comerica Park.
Victor Martinez had three hits and drove in three runs on Wednesday night, as the Detroit Tigers ended a four game losing streak with an 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates  Nick Castellanos added a triple and a home run, while Alex Avila also hit a home run to pace the Detroit attack.  The two teams play again on Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park.
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 on Tuesday night,  handing the Tigers their fourth straight loss and keeping them in second place in the Central a half game behind Kansas City.  Alex Avila had two hits, including a home run for the Tigers, who host the Pirates Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
