Water street construction begins
The Michigan Department of Transportation opened up Lapeer Avenue traffic Tuesday to allow for an easier flow given recent detours in the area. Lapeer has been the object of a one-lane only section under the I-94 freeway as controlled by a traffic light.
Restoration of the exterior of the Michigan Capitol building is on target to finish up in November. The exterior restoration is part of the $6.5 million Capitol restoration project. The next step will be repairs to the building's interior. Ron Staley

Curt Casali hit two more home runs and drove in three more runs as the Tampa Bay Rays crushed the Tigers 10-2 on Tuesday night.  Tim Beckham added two hits and four RBI for the Rays.  Yoenis Cespedes hit a home run for the Tigers.  The final game of a three game series is set for Wednesday afternoon.
Curt Casali hit two home runs and knocked in three to pace the Tampa Bay Rays in a 5-2 win over the Tigers on Monday night in Florida.  Casali entered the game with three career home runs and a .184 career batting average.  Yoenis Cespedes hit a home run for the Tigers and drove in both Detroit runs.  Game two of a three game series is set for Tuesday night.
Ryan McNamee and Dieter Schulz won the Riggin Four Ball Tournament at Port Huron Golf Club firing a two day, 54-hole total of 202 to win by seven strokes.  Patrick Cansfield and Scott Wilbrett finished second with a 209, while joe Mericka and Mason Motte shot 210 to finish third.

The Boston Red Sox got 20 hits, led by David Ortiz, who hqd four, including two home runs and seven RBI, on their way to an 11-1 win over the Tigers on Sunday night.  Detroit had three hits, and scored its lone run on a solo home run from Nick Castellanos.  The Tigers head to Tampa Bay to play on Monday, now two game under 500 for the season.
Yoenis Cespedes and Nick Castellanos hit home runs as the Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 5-1 in Boston on Saturday.  Castellanos drove in three runs, while Alfredo Simon pitched six solid innings allowing just one run.  The final game of a three game series is Sunday night at Fenway.
The Tigers wasted an 8 inning one run effort from Justin Verlander and lost in eleven innings 2-1 at Boston.  Xander Bogaerts had the game winning hit for Boston, while Ian Kinsler had three hits and an RBI for the Tigers.  Game two of a three game series is Saturday.
Victor Martinez had a 2-run double in the first inning, but the Tigers failed to score after that and lost 3-2 to the Seattle Mariners in 12 innings.  David Pirce went 8 innings and allowed just 2 runs and 5 hits, while striking out 7.  The Tigers begin a ten game road trip on Friday night in Boston.
Nick Castellanos hit a grand slam to high light an eight run third inning for the Tigers, who beat the Seattle Mariners 9-4 on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.  Ian Kinsler added four hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who wrap up a four game series with the Mariners on Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park.
