An enormous loss... that's the view of some citizens as the death of Port Huron City Councilmember and former Mayor Brian Moeller was announced.  He passed away Tuesday at the age of 59.  Last year saw Moeller diagnosed with cancer, with him undergoing treatment and making an apparent recovery earlier this year, only to have the cancer return.  Tom Seppo of local ministry

A Port Huron man accused in a double homicide last summer at an apartment complex will be standing trial this week.  Officials at the St. Clair County Court house say a jury has been seated and testimony is to begin in the case of Manuel Gamez.  He's charged with two counts of open murder, two counts of torture and one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct.  Port

Looks like voters in Port Huron could see a pro-marijuana initiative on the November ballot.  Laura Rigby is with the Coalition for a Safer Port Huron, which is proposing to decriminalize the use or possession of small amounts of the drug within city limits, and she says petitions to place the issue on the fall ballot were turned into the City Clerk's office this week.  Rigby says

A regular meeting Monday night for the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education saw an annual report given on Matt's Law, which requires every school district in the state to have an anti-bullying policy in place.  Board President Jeff Stout says even with 325 reported incidents of harassment, intimidation or bullying for all schools, it's still far less than other

An armed robbery reported at the Spirit Shop in the 35-hundred block of Gratiot.  Police say a white male wearing dark clothing and covering his face walked in about 9:40pm Monday and demanded cash.  He stood about 5' 10" to 6'. He brandished a knife and escapped with an undetermined amount of money.  No injuries were reported and investigations are continuing.

Canadian officials say a 29-year-old Ontario woman found on property beneath the Blue Water Bridge Monday morning died from her injuries.  The woman was discovered under the bridge after a report came in of an abandoned vehicle on the Canadian side of the bridge.  The woman was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased.  Ontario Provincial Police say foul play is not

Police have released a composite of a person of interest in the death of 14-year-old April Millsap who was found along a trail in the village of Armada last Thursday.  The sketch is available for view at the State Police web site and at www.wphm.net.
 
 

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office reports on a couple of fatal traffic crashes from over the weekend.  The first occurred Saturday afternoon in Riley Township at Braidwood and Masters Roads.  A 36-year old man from Emmett Township failed to stop on Braidwood, with his vehicle hitting another along Masters.  He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle,

It's another good week for Michigan motorists looking to fill 'er up.  Triple A Michigan says gasoline prices in the state dropped by about 14 cents a gallon.  That makes it the fourth straight week of price declines in Michigan.  The average price for self-serve regular was $3.49 per gallon, which is 17-cents a gallon higher than last year at this time.  Auto
 
The Great Lakes Steamship Society is throwing in the towel on saving the J.B. Ford as a museum ship. Costs to preserve and stabilize the vessel, built in 1903, were deemed to high by the group. It had been the main focus of the society for the past few years. Some instead are looking at similar efforts for the S.T. Crapo.
 

 
The Detroit Tigers scored six runs in the first inning on Wednesday night and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.  Nick Castellanos had two hits, including a three-run home run, and knocked in four runs in the game for the Tigers.  Torii Hunter added three hits, two runs, and an RBI.  Max Scherzer went seven innings for the win, allowing just one run and striking out
The Chicago White Sox broke open a tie game with seven runs in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, now their way to an 11-4 win over the Detroit Tigers.  Bryan Holaday drove in two runs for Detroit, while Victor Martinez picked up three hits.  The Tigers will try to snap a four game losing streak on Wednesday, when they rematch the Sox at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers managed just three hits in their third straight loss to the Angels in Los Angeles on Sunday, by a score of 2-1.  The Tigers managed just seven hits in the last two games of the series and scored just two runs in the final three games of the series, all loses.  Monday is a day off for Detroit as they return home to face Chicago beginning Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers managed just four hits on Saturday night in a 4-0 loss to the Angels in Los Angeles.  Austin Jackson had two hits for the Tigers, who have scored just one run in their last 18 innings.  The final game of a four game series in California is set for Sunday afternoon.
Drew Smyly struck out eleven in six innings, but suffered a 2-1 loss on Friday night to the Los Angeles Angels in California.  The lone Detroit run scored on a solo home run from Miguel Cabrera.  The third game of a four game series is set for Saturday night.
Max Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Thursday night in the first game of a four game series in California.  Joe Nathan got his 21st save by striking out the side in the ninth.  Nick Castellanos had two hits and two RBI, while Ian Kinsler also knocked in two runs.  Game two of the series is Friday night.
The Detroit Tigers acquired right handed relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  In the deal Detroit sent pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson to the Rangers.  Soria has pitched seven years in the majors and has 177 career saves and has struck out more hitters than he has pitched innings.  Soria has a club option on his current contract
Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson, and Alex Avila all drove in three runs each, as the Detroit Tigers crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-5 on Wednesday afternoon.  Rajai Davis added three hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who open a four game series in Los Angeles on Thursday night against the Angels.
Phil Coke walked two of the three hitters he pitched to and they both came around to score in the bottom of the eighth, as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to beat the Detroit tigers 5-4 on Tuesday night in Phoenix.  Torii Hunter had given the Tigers the lead in the top of the inning with a two run single, but the Detroit bullpen gave the runs right back.  The Tigers and D-Backs wrap up
Miguel cabrera singled in the go ahead run in the seventh inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the Arizona DiamondBacks 4-3 in Phoenix on Monday night.  Torii Hunter and Austin Jackson hit home runs for the Tigers, who have won two in a row.  Game two of the inter-league series is Tuesday night.
