Storm approaching Wales Township
 
Lots of rain, lightning, and sirens but little in the way of wind and damage in the Port Huron area yesterday. Severe thunderstorms ravaged much of Southeast Michigan with numerous reports of large trees down on cars, houses, and garages in an area from Detroit to Caseville.  Sirens were sounded because of high wind potential.  The Saint Clair County International Airport

Local governmental meetings, Monday, include regular sessions for the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education and Marysville City Council. The school board meeting, back at the remodeled McKinley building features an annual report on harassment, intimidation, and bullying. Marysville City Council, meanwhile, hears a report on the library system operating millage renewal and a grant
 
The Great Lakes Steamship Society is throwing in the towel on saving the J.B. Ford as a museum ship. Costs to preserve and stabilize the vessel, built in 1903, were deemed to high by the group. It had been the main focus of the society for the past few years. Some instead are looking at similar efforts for the S.T. Crapo.

Raising money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes... that's the Water Warriors, making their annual ride, this week, down along the shores of Lake Huron, from Mackinaw City down to Harsens Island.  The group's Tom Chauvin tells us, when they get down to the local area later this week, they'll be easy to spot. Next year will see ground broken, at the south McMorran parking lot, for Blue Water Area Transit's new transfer center.  General Manager of the local bus service, Jim Wilson, says preliminary work on the project continues, with some that'll be done later this summer. Wilson says the project is a good one, given that ridership has increased nearly 90-percent in recent years,
 
Everything old is new again, at the Everything Classic Antique store, in downtown Port Huron.  The store's Mike Gaylord says a new exhibit, this week, will see miniature luxury cars inside antique bottles. Gaylord says another display at the store is one of the largest porcelain and glass shoe collections, with over 18-hundred exhibited.  The Everything Classic Antique
 
Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in June increased moderately in 13 of the state’s 17 major labor market regions. According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment and labor force levels increased seasonally in the majority of areas over the month. County rates were mixed but Saint Clair County showed a one percentage point increase,
 
New name, same place... that's the former Port Huron Hospital, with signage installed Wednesday, to signal a new start for the facility.  President and CEO, at McLaren Port Huron, Tom DeFauw tells our Bill Gilmer next year is expected to see construction started on a new cancer center and a new inpatient tower, once plans are finalized. The Detroit Tigers managed just three hits in their third straight loss to the Angels in Los Angeles on Sunday, by a score of 2-1.  The Tigers managed just seven hits in the last two games of the series and scored just two runs in the final three games of the series, all loses.  Monday is a day off for Detroit as they return home to face Chicago beginning Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers managed just four hits on Saturday night in a 4-0 loss to the Angels in Los Angeles.  Austin Jackson had two hits for the Tigers, who have scored just one run in their last 18 innings.  The final game of a four game series in California is set for Sunday afternoon.
Drew Smyly struck out eleven in six innings, but suffered a 2-1 loss on Friday night to the Los Angeles Angels in California.  The lone Detroit run scored on a solo home run from Miguel Cabrera.  The third game of a four game series is set for Saturday night.
Max Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Thursday night in the first game of a four game series in California.  Joe Nathan got his 21st save by striking out the side in the ninth.  Nick Castellanos had two hits and two RBI, while Ian Kinsler also knocked in two runs.  Game two of the series is Friday night.
The Detroit Tigers acquired right handed relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  In the deal Detroit sent pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson to the Rangers.  Soria has pitched seven years in the majors and has 177 career saves and has struck out more hitters than he has pitched innings.  Soria has a club option on his current contract
Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson, and Alex Avila all drove in three runs each, as the Detroit Tigers crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-5 on Wednesday afternoon.  Rajai Davis added three hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who open a four game series in Los Angeles on Thursday night against the Angels.
Phil Coke walked two of the three hitters he pitched to and they both came around to score in the bottom of the eighth, as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to beat the Detroit tigers 5-4 on Tuesday night in Phoenix.  Torii Hunter had given the Tigers the lead in the top of the inning with a two run single, but the Detroit bullpen gave the runs right back.  The Tigers and D-Backs wrap up
Miguel cabrera singled in the go ahead run in the seventh inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the Arizona DiamondBacks 4-3 in Phoenix on Monday night.  Torii Hunter and Austin Jackson hit home runs for the Tigers, who have won two in a row.  Game two of the inter-league series is Tuesday night.
Torii Hunter hit a two run home run and Drew Smyly pitched seven strong innings, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians on Sunday 5-1 to avoid being swept in a four game series.  Smyly allowed just one run and four hits, while striking out six to earn the win.  The Tigers play in Arizona on Monday night to open a seven game road trip out west.
Carlos Santana hit a three run double in the ninth to break open a 2-2 game and lead the Cleveland Indians to a 5-2 win on Saturday night, and a sweep in a double header.  Chris Dickerson hit two solo home runs for the Tribe, while Austin Jackson drove in both runs for the Tigers.  The final game of a four game series is Sunday in Detroit.  The Tigers have lost four in a row.
