A six game winless streak came to crashing hault as the Detroit Red Wings stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-3 on Tuesday night.  Tomas Tatar scored twice, while Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss, Dan DeKeyser, and Johan Franzen also scored goals.  Gustav Nyquist had three assists.  The Wings play at Ottawa on Saturday.
The four game losing streak is over for Michigan.  The Wolverines blasted Coppin State on Monday night 72-56 in Ann Arbor.  Rickey Doyle had 16 for the Wolverines and Zak Irvin added 13.  Michigan opens Big Ten play next Tuesday against Illinois.
When the Detroit Lions play the Packers for the NFC North Division title on Sunday in Green Bay, they will be without veteran starting center Dominic Raiola.  Raiola was suspended for one game by the NFL for stomping on the ankle of a Chicago Bears player in the Lions 20-14 win last Sunday.
Veteran forward Josh Smith was suprisingly released by the Detroit Pistons on Monday.  The NBA team still owes him $27 million over the next two seasons after this year.  Smith was signed to a huge four year deal before last season by Joe Dumars, but lasted less than a year and  a half in Detroit.  He was averaging around 13 points and 7 rebounds a game this season.
Michigan State bounced back from a weekend upset loss to Texas Southern, crushing the Citadel on Monday night 82-56.  Denzel Valentine had 18 points and Gavin Schilling added 11 for the Spartans, who open play in the Big Ten next Tuesday at home against Maryland.
They got a point, but lost in shootout again.  The Detroit Red Wings fell 2-1 to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday at Joe Louis Arena.  Pavel Datsyuk scored a third period power play goal for the Wings, just their second goal in 11 periods.  The Wings are now (0-2-4) in their last six games and host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday in Detroit.
Despite 18 points and 20 rebounds from Andre Drummond, the Detroit Pistons lost in Brooklyn 110-105 to the Nets on Sunday.  Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 20 and Greg Monroe added 16 for the Pistons, who return home on Friday to face the Indiana Pacers.
The Detroit Lions came from behind and beat the Chicago Bears 20-14 in Chicago on Sunday to keep their division title hopes alive.  Reggie Bush and Joique Bell each rushed for a touchdown for the Lions, while Calvin Johnson went over 1,000 yards receiving after making six catches for 103 yards.  The Lions will play in Green Bay next Sunday, with the winner taking the NFC North
The Philadelphia Eagles lost on Saturday 27-24 to the Washington Red Skins, clinching a playoff berth for the Detroit Lions.  The Lions are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and will try to snap a seven game post season losing streak.  Since winning the championship in 1957, Detroit has won just one playoff game, beating the Cowboys in 1991, and is (1-10) in eleven post
No. 25 Michigan State lost in overtime to Texas Southern 71-64 on Saturday.  It was just the second win of the season in ten games for Southern.  Matt Costello had 17 points for MSU, who had a three game win streak come to an end.  The Spartans (8-4) will host Citadel on Monday.  In other action, Michigan lost its fourth straight game, falling 62-51 to SMU in Ann Arbor.
