Goodells County Park is the place to be this week for the annual St. Clair County 4-H and Youth Fair, with all the usual favorites going on such as the carnival, the animal showings and auctions, plus the demolition derbies and tractor pulls, and also available will be free vision screenings for children.  Dave Dykstra with the Port Huron South Park Lions Club tells us the free screenings
Propery now owned by Casey's Pizza adjacent to the Huron Avenue eatery's parking lot taken down Monday.  The building, at Michigan and Beers served as a law office for many years.

The Southside Jazz Festival another success Sunday afternoon as several groups provided a variety of music.  The well attended event featured several public information booths and a number of local eateries to mark the 28th year of the Lincoln Park event.

Dale Markel was working on a water main break Sunday when he suffered an apparent medical emergency that apparently claimed his life. Mayor Raymond Skotarczyk asked citizens to keep Dale’s family in their prayers. He described Markel as a hard-working dedicated employee.  The incident happened about 6:45 p.m. according to a press release issued by the city.

Gas prices have dropped for the third week in a row, AAA Michigan reports.  The auto club says Michigan’s current statewide average is $3.63 per gallon, about 3 cents less than last week and about 21 cents lower than this same time last year. Average prices were as low as $3.57a gallon and as high as $3.72 in the latest survey.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says work is to be done the last couple weeks of July and through the month of August with closures along portions of I-94 and I-69, with the closures needed for bridge work.  Officials say drivers should expect overnight closures, with other limited, short-duration closures occurring at various times of the day as well. The St. Clair County Road Commission now says July 28th is the date for a full closure of Fred Moore Highway and Allington Road between St Clair Hwy and Trumble Rd northeast of Adair. The closing will be until August 11th as part of major resurfacing and other work on the roadway.
The two people killed in a crash at Lakeshore Road and Burtch Road in Burtchville Township have been identified. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, 15 year old Jarrod Robert Smith of Wixom, and his mother, 52 year old Karen Kay Smith died from injuries suffered in the crash.  21 year old Kaitlyn Smith was a backseat passenger.  She was transported to Port Huron

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and Marine City Police Department held a joint training exercise Thursday the Marine City Middle School. The training, produced by Critical Training Group from Macomb Township, was a school bus scenario. A suspect with a handgun had boarded a school bus and taken hostages. Torii Hunter hit a two run home run and Drew Smyly pitched seven strong innings, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians on Sunday 5-1 to avoid being swept in a four game series.  Smyly allowed just one run and four hits, while striking out six to earn the win.  The Tigers play in Arizona on Monday night to open a seven game road trip out west.
Carlos Santana hit a three run double in the ninth to break open a 2-2 game and lead the Cleveland Indians to a 5-2 win on Saturday night, and a sweep in a double header.  Chris Dickerson hit two solo home runs for the Tribe, while Austin Jackson drove in both runs for the Tigers.  The final game of a four game series is Sunday in Detroit.  The Tigers have lost four in a row.
Cory Kluber came with in one out of a complete game, as the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 6-2 in the opening game of a day/night double header Saturday at Comerica Park.  Miguel Cabrera had three hits in the loss for the Tigers.
Down 3-0 after six innings, the Cleveland Indians exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning, on their way to a 9-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The teams will play a day/night double header on Saturday as part of a four game series.
Max Scherzer picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief last night in the All Star Game, as the American League beat the National League 5-3 in Minnesota.  Miguel Cabrera hit a two run home in the first inning of the game.  The Tigers return to play on Friday against Cleveland.
The 90th Mackinac Race ended on Monday night with the pickel boat, Home Brewed crossing the finish line at 10:31.  The yacht is co-owned by Robert Henderson III of Armada.  In re-cap, Windquest was first to finish in 27:46:59 arriving around 5:30 Sunday evening.  The Overall Cove Island winner was Natalie J, while the Division V winner on the Cove Island course was Lucky
Sources close to the Detroit Pistons say the team has agreed to terms with free agents Caron Butler and DJ Augustin.  Butler, a forward, will get a one year deal with a team option for a second year, at $9 million.  Augustin, a guard, will get a two year deal worth $6 million.
Light air near the finish line is hampering the progress of the final boats left sailing the 90th Mackinac Race.  As of 7:30 Monday evening only four yachts were left, with two of those less than a mile from finishing.  The two boats battling it out for Pickel Boat honors are Sea Wise (6.5 miles from the line) and Home Brewed (9.7 miles from the line).  Neither boat is making much

Only 11 yachts are still sailing the 90th Mackinac Race.  The closest to the finish line are the boats Wasabi and Seraphim who are just 2.3 nuatical miles from the goal, while the yacht Wind of Change is the furthest from the end of the race, still 30.3 nuatical miles away.
