The Toronto Blue Jays erupted for six runs in the 5th inning and salvaged the final game of their series in Detroit, beating the Tigers 10-5 on Sunday.  JD Martinez and Anthony Gose hit home runs for the Tigers.  Detroit is in Seattle on Monday.
David Price gave the Tigers seven strong innings and the Tigers gave him some early runs in an 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  JD Martinez hit a two run home run, while Ian Kinsler had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs.  The Tigers have won two in a row and go for the series sweep on Sunday.
With an 8-0 lead and pitcher Anibal Sanchez five outs from a no hitter, the Tigers had to hang on for an 8-6 win over Toronto on Friday night.  The Jays scored all of their runs in the 8th inning after breaking up Sanchez's no hitter with one out in the inning.  The victory snapped a three game losing streak for the Tigers, who face the Jays again on Saturday afternoon.
The Detroit Pistons had a busy Thursday acquiring three players in a trade with the Phoenix Suns.  Detroit gives up only a second round draft pick in 2020, but gets forwards Danny Granger, Marcus Morris, and guard Reggie Bullock.  Detroit also added back up center Aron Baynes, by signing the former Spur to a three year deal worth $20 million.
JD Martinez hit another three run home run, but the Detroit Tigers lost 8-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, giving Pittsburgh a sweep in a three game series.  Ian Kinsler had three hits and an RBI in the loss.  The Tigers open a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates smacked out 21 hits, including four home runs, on their way to a 9-3 win over the Tigers on Wednesday night.  Neil Walker had four hits, including two home runs.  James McCann had a solo home run for the Tigers, who have lost two in a row.  The final game of a three game series is set for Thursday afternoon.
On the first day on NHL free agency the Detroit Red Wings landed two players, signing defenseman Mike Green and forward Brad Richards.  Green, who has spent 10 years in Washington, got a three year deal worth $18 million.  He had several big seasons early in his career, but then suffered though four seasons plagued with injuries.  Last season Green was healthy again for the
JD Martinez hit his 20th home run of the season, a two-run shot, but the Detroit Tigers lost in a 14 inning marathon 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Tigers still sit in third in the AL Central, a game and a half behind second place Minnesota and six games behind first place Kansas City.  Detroit plays Pittsburgh again on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
James McCann hit a game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox.  Victor Martinez hit a big three run double in the eighth inning as the Tigers came back from 4-0 down to tie the game.  Detroit has won two in a row.
