MACKINAW INVOLVED IN TUG RESCUE

Crew members on the Tug/barge Pere Marquette-41 radioed Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie early Friday morning that the barge and Tug Undaunted had become trapped between ice floes just West of the Mackinac bridge and were in danger of running aground. The Tug Joyce L. VanEnkevort responded to the call along with the Coast Guard cutter Mackinaw.   Officials  report that the Undaunted was able to break free of the ice floe at around 6-o-clock that morning and rendezvoused with the Mighty Mac at around 9:30 both making their way to Ludington's port. No injuries  were reported in the incident.
