Lots of memories Tuesday afternoon as the cornerstone of the former Chippewa Middle School in Port Huron Township was brought back to light in a ceremony that saw about one hundred in attendance. Port Huron Area School District Superintendent Ron Wollen says the sale of the site along Chippewa Trail to home improvement chain Menards is bittersweet, but will help not only the school district but also the local area. Among those in attendance was former school official Andrew Pochodylo who opened a time capsule contained in the cornerstone. In it were several items from the year 1956, which is when the cornerstone was put into place. Port Huron Township Supervisor Robert Lewandowski says the site will see work in about a month as construction crews start to tear down the building and start work on the Menards facility, which is expected to open in the spring or early summer next year.
