Port Huron Area School District superintendent Ron Wollen has announced that he will retire from the district June 30th of next year. The date coincides with the end of the district's fiscal year. The long time educator started with the district in 1973 and was Port Huron High's principal for many years. He was first appointed assistant superintendent before being named suuperintendent in 2010. Wollen tells us in an interview that he is proud to have been part of the district's turnaround and notes the fund equity is expected to see an increase soon after years of spending more than was coming in. His announcement was made now to give the Board of Education time to search for a replacement....the process for which will be discussed at Monday night's Board of Education meeting.
