Love it, hate it, be confused by it... that's Microsoft's Excel program, which has been the industry standard for spreadsheets for awhile, and features calculation, graphing tools, and a macro-programming language. Carol DesJardins is a professor of computer information systems at St. Clair County Community College and has recently had the pleasure of co-authoring a college textbook on the subject. She says the program has proved to be a flexible application, despite its roots in statistical, engineering and financial sectors. DesJardins says she worked for about a year on the textbook, which helps students develop skills for the Microsoft spreadsheet software. The comprehensive edition is being published this fall.
