SESSION LOOKS AT IMMIGRATION IMPACT IN LOCAL AREA

Immigration's Impact on Economic Development in the Blue Water Area... that's the topic today for an event at St. Clair County Community College.  The session takes a look at immigrants and immigration, with the thrust of the discussion focusing on how immigrants are job creators.  Organizer, Rasha Demashkieh of the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education, says the event will also see guest speakers. Included are Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp and Dan Casey of the Economic Development Alliance. Demashkieh and her husband are both from Syria and came to Michigan in the mid-1970's.  A co-sponsor of the event is the Michigan Civil Rights Commission.  The event is free and open to the public.  It starts at 5:00 p.m., at the SC4 M-Tec building.
