The historic former Sperry's department store in downtown Port Huron will be developed into a high-end hotel and bistro according to plans announced yesterday. Chuck Reid is a Holland-based entrepreneur and the owner of City Flats hotels and Charter House Innovations, which will be developing the long vacated Sperry's building. Reid says the $12-million dollar project is in a design phase and plans call for it to be opened in 2015. It would have 38 to 40 guest rooms, as well as a bistro style restaurant, a ball room and conference spaces. The building was last occupied in 2009 by House of Denmark. Sperry’s was a decades old store that many remember as Santa’s home during the holidays. In it’s prime it was the main anchor and center of activity for downtown Port Huron.
