ST. CLAIR COUNTY DODGES ICE STORM

Tens of thousands of Michigan residents are waiting for the electricity to come back on following storms that hit Saturday night into Sunday.  The National Weather Service had issued an ice storm warning for the area and two nearby counties got a coating of ice by Sunday morning.  That left a few thousand without power in Sanilac County and upwards of 28,000 still off the grid as of this morning in Lapeer County.  DTE Energy says Lapeer County was one of the hardest hit in the storm that many feared could have been a lot worse.  Saint Clair County’s Emergency Operation Center was partially activated Saturday night to monitor the approaching storm and handle any emergency calls.  The storm for the most part missed the area with only a few hundred DTE Energy customers without power. The utility says crews are working 16-hour shifts to get as many people as possible back on line by Christmas Day.
