Stupid News for 1/15/15

Police in Saskatchewan said a man who spotted his stolen car during a cab ride had the taxi driver give chase and lead police to the car and suspects. The man reported his car was stolen when he left it running and unlocked Sunday and he called a taxi cab to take him to work. However, during the ride to work the man spotted his car being driven and the cab driver gave chase. Police were summoned and took over the pursuit, which ended when the occupants of the stolen car abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police said a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were arrested following a search of the area using tracker dogs. The suspects face multiple charges.

A professional BMX stunt rider shocked witnesses by riding his bicycle over the 24-foot-tall arches of a Texas bridge. Mat Olson, who said his goal is to compete in the X Games, said a crowd of astonished onlookers had formed on the ground when he finished his ride across the arches of the West Seventh Street bridge in Fort Worth. Olson said the crowd included some police officers. "By the time they got out of their cars, I was already halfway across it," he said. "They were more astonished than anything: 'I can't believe you're alive right now. Are you kidding? Why are you doing this?'" Olson, who said he consulted with an attorney prior to his stunt so he could be prepared for any possible charges, said the police let him go with a warning.

A Washington state Chihuahua won't be driving again anytime soon after he took a "joy ride" in his owner's car. Tabitha Ormaechea said she was stopped at a red light in Spokane earlier this month when her car was struck in the tire by a slow-moving vehicle that appeared to be unoccupied. She said, "When I looked up, there was no one in the car, just a little dog up on the steering wheel peeking over looking at me. I was shocked. I didn't know if I was crazy, or if this little dog had taken a joy ride." Jason Martinez, the owner of the car and the dog, said he has left the canine, Toby, in the car while he went into a nearby store. He said, "He must have knocked it out of gear and the car rolled out."  The car owners said damage from the bump was minimal, and Martinez said he is taking care to ensure Toby doesn't get behind the wheel again anytime soon.
