Stupid News for 6/12/14

A Maryland man was arrested for allegedly attempting to swipe candy from a Subway sandwich shop while wearing only a pair of shorts and white socks. James Wirick appeared intoxicated when an officer responded to the Prince Frederick Subway because of a suspicious subject report. The deputy observed Wirick putting candy in his pocket and arrested him for theft under $100 when he discovered that he had not paid for the candy.  After being taken to the county detention center, Wirick was hit with a destruction of property charge after he allegedly tore a telephone out of the wall.

A California high school teacher was arrested and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and criminal threats after he allegedly threatened three of his students with a knife and ordered them to drive him to Jack in the Box.  According to the students, they encountered John Maust while driving around on Saturday night and he asked them for a ride. They agreed and Maust, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time, hopped in the vehicle. The conversation in the car quickly got weird and the 17-year-old driver pulled over. When the students exited the car, Maust "said he wanted to go to Jack in the Box, and ordered the juveniles back into the car. Fearing for their well-being, the juveniles re-entered the car." After everyone was back in the car, Maust pulled out a knife. At some point during the encounter, one of the teens called 911 and a sheriff's helicopter began circling overhead. Maust ordered the driver to stop and fled after the helicopter appeared, so it doesn't sound as if he ever made it to Jack in the Box. Maust surrendered without incident at the sheriff's station.

Australian police arrested a man and charged him with drunk driving after he was found riding a motorized beer cooler while under the influence of alcohol. The 22-year-old was driving the cart down the middle of a quiet street in the suburbs on Friday night. The motorized cooler did contain alcohol at the time. A police rep said, ""This motor vehicle would only be able to travel at very low speeds, the lighting devices on said vehicle would be negligible and make it very difficult for other motorists to see."
