Justin Verlander shut down the Oakland A's on Thursday night and pitched the Detroit Tigers to a 3-0 win, giving them a 3-2 series victory over the A's. Verlander retired the first 16 hitters of the game and had a no hitter going with two outs in the seventh before he allowed the first of only two hits in the game. He also struck out ten. Miguel Cabrera provided him with all the runs he would need, belting a two run home run in the fourth inning. The Tigers head to Boston to open the best-of-seven American League Championship Series on Saturday against the Red Sox.
