Drew Smyly tossed six solid innings with a career high 10 strike outs on Friday night as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 to climb back to the 500 mark on the season for the first time since May 15. Quintin Berry hit a two-run triple and Delmon Young hit a two-run home run to provide the Tigers with their runs. Game two of a three game series is set for Saturday afternoon.
