Max Scherzer struck out a career high 15, the most by a Detrot pitcher since Mickey Lolich in the 1970's, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3. Tigers pitchers struck out a total of 17 Pirates in the game and had 41 strike outs in the three game series, an all time team record. Jhonny Peralta hit a solo home run, and Delmon Young had an RBI single, but the big hit was a two run single by Alex Avila in the seventh that put Detroit ahead to stay. The Tigers have a day off on Monday, before beginning a long road trip on Tuesday night in Cleveland.
