One of the closest races of the night in Tuesday's local elections turned out to be the contest between Michael West and John Adair for Circuit Court Judge....and the winner....West.....in unofficial tabulations. The election returns found West ending up ahead of Adair by about a thousand votes. All of the results will need to be certified by the Board of Canvassers in the next few days. Early on there was also a close race for St. Clair County Clerk with challenger Pam Wall doing well in the Port Huron area...Jay DeBoyer picked up steam in the south part of the county eventually winning by about 2-thousand votes. In other contests Dan Lauwers is the new state rep in the 81st District and will sit among re-elected incumbents Paul Muxlow and Andrea LaFontaine....the local community college saw eight candidates vying for 2-seats with a Port Huron duo taking the top spots...James Relken and John Ogden....Port Huron figured in well too in County Commission District number 2 where former City Manager Karl Tomion won a seat for the Republicans....he joins incumbents Howard Heidemann, Steve Simasko, and Bill Gratopp who all won re-election. The Drain Commissioner saw re-election as Robert Wiley bested his competition by several thousand votes. The Drug Task Force millage renewal was no problem in getting approved by about 10-thousand votes.
