The Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland A's 6-0 in game five of their best-of-five series on Thursday night, to advance to the American League Championship Series for the second year in a row. Justin Verlander went the distance and struck out 11 batters to set a new record for most strike outs in a Division Series with 22 in two starts. He allowed just four hits in the game. Austin Jackson had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored two runs to pace the Detroit attack. The Tigers will face the winner of the Yankees and Orioles series which goes to game five on Friday night in New York.
