So how are you weathering the latest winter storm? A Winter Storm Warning continued into the morning hours Friday with the storm leaving significant amounts of snow in Port Huron and the surrounding area. At least a half-foot of snow fell overnight with, heavier amounts to our north up through the Thumb region. Jeff Friedland at the county's Emergency Management Office says the local road commission will be out salting and plowing the main roads as soon as possible, but those hoping for their side streets to see a plow may have to wait awhile. Friedland says residents should have their 72-hour emergency supply kit ready, with essential items like non-perishable foods, water, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, as well as blankets, flashlights, and emergency contact information. More suggestions are available at www.bereadystclaircounty.org. All public and most private schools in the local area were closed today due to the storm...even the Saint Clair County Community College shut down the Port Huron campus. Blue Water Transportation operated busses on main roads only and the Saint Clair County Council On Aging closed all senior centers and canceled the meal programs.
