Details on that expansion plan for SMR Automotive Systems in Marysville released at a press conference Thursday at Marysville City Hall. Company, city, and county officials talked of an expanding mirror producing plant and an increase in jobs that could total over 400 new employees in five years. Port Huron enters into the picture too because SMR will be using the former Advanced Accessories building along 16th to gain another 100,000 square feet of space. Plans for the Marysville site include 40-million in additions for a new paint line, additional office space, and new molding equipment. All totaled the improvements are expected to double capacity. Labor force availability and transportation factors among the reasons SMR decided to stay local. City Manager Jason Hami says the announcement is one of several potential good news items in the near future. He notes a few hundred more new jobs possible with ZF Marysville expansion plans. SMR says to anticipate additional hiring this year but most in the next year. The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County worked with the company and state to secure 11-million dollars in incentives.
