The first round of the high school football playoffs opened on Friday night with St. Clair, Richmond, and Peck all advancing to next week. In division 3 the St. Clair Saints tied a school record with their 9th win of the season, a 47-14 romp of Detroit Old Redford Academy. St. Clair (9-1) will face the winner of Saturday's game between Detroit Denby and Detroit Mumford in next weeks disctrict final. In division 4, Yale nearly upset undefeated Saginaw Swan Valley, but the Bulldogs lost a 14-13 battle to the Vikings. Yale finishes the season at (6-4). Richmond crushed Harper Woods Chandler Park 47-30. The Blue Devils led 47-14 but allowed two late scores to make the game look closer. Richmond will meet the winner between Marine City and Marysville, who play Saturday night at East China Stadium. In division 5 Almont lost to Millington 28-21 and in division 6 Marlette fell 49-27 to Saginaw Nouvel Catholic. In the 8-man playoffs Peck improved to (10-0) and ousted the defending State Champs from Deckerville 32-14. The Pirates will play in next weeks quarter finals against the winner of Saturday's game between Carsonville-Port Sanilac and Portland St. Patrick.
