The Marine City Mariners won their second state title in high school football, defeating the defending champs from Grand Rapids South Christian 49-35 on Friday night at Ford Field in the division 4 final. Jarrett Mathison rushed for over 100 yards and had three touchdowns, including a 91 yard kick off return. Mathison also had two key interceptions in the game. Pete Patsalis had 142 yards recieving and caught three touchdown passes from Alex Merchant. Tait Sapienza also had a touchdown and rushed for over 100 yards in the win. Mariners kicker Olivia Viney set a stat finals record with seven extra points, she also became the first female player to score in a finals game. The Mariners tied a school record with their 13th win of the season.
