RENTAL HOUSING ORDINANCES FINALIZED

Ordinances, changes and amendments with some teeth... that's the proposed regulations for dealing with rental units in the city of Port Huron.  The City Council tonight will be discussing the issue, with the Planning Commission having approved some of the ordinances changes last week.  Those recommendations come before the council tonight as first and second readings. Chair of the Planning Commission David Schwartz says last week's session saw residents and others wanting even more tools to deal with the rental situation...items he says might be taken up in the not to distant future. Schwartz says he believes the changes before council will be a good first step in handling the matter, with the city having toughened up blight rules also. He says if the changes prove to be successful the city can take further steps to promote ownership of pre-existing homes.  Council meets tonight at 7pm with a few ordinances involving the issue already set for final readings and approval.  Council’s final meeting of the year is scheduled for next Monday at 6:30pm.
