The announcement was finally made Thursday concerning the future plans of the historic Marysville Power Plant. DTE Energy says it is in the process of selling it to a St. Louis based developing company known for changing industrial and commercial land into a variety of usses. Commercial Development Company has demonstrated a long track record of successfully preparing such areas for redevelopment. The old adage of location, location, location echos in comments made at the press conference from Marysville Mayor Dan Damman. He says there could be a variety of uses including mixed residential and commercial for the 20-acre site. It will be up to the developers in the next couple of years to find the right use. Damman says the city will be working with the company in the search. After the sales agreement is finalized demolition would begin...a process that starts inside the old plant and could continue for a few months. After that various soil tests will be taken to determine what if any additional clean-up is needed. The land's closeness to transportation corridors and having a deep water port along the scenic St. Clair River seen a huge plus factors in getting the area redeveloped.
