Stupid News for 12/23/13

An Arizona woman tried to deck more than the halls when she sucker-punched a Salvation Army bell-ringer for smiling and wishing her "happy holidays" - instead of a Merry Christmas. Kristina Vindiola, who was collecting cash for the charity outside a Wal-Mart, said she didn't expect to have her own bell rung when she greeted the stranger, but saw a change in her demeanor when she offered the comment. Vindiola said, "I thought she was going to put money in the kettle. She came up to me and said, 'Do you believe in God?' And she says, ‘You're supposed to say Merry Christmas,' and that's when she hit me." The incident was captured on a surveillance camera, but police say they didn't have enough evidence to arrest the woman accused in the assault.

A Florida man really bugged out because of some bugs - and decided to burn down a church in order to get rid of the mosquitoes that he found to be such a buzz-kill. Drazen Premate, a homeless man who was once hailed as one of the greatest intellects in commercial space exploration, set fire to the H20 Church because he was besieged by bug bites. The church's pastor said that he'd allowed Premate to stay on the property because the 57-year-old seemed "lost," but refused to take a spot in a homeless shelter. Premate is currently awaiting arraignment on arson charges.

A California man who was desperate to save some time is going to end up doing time instead, after he stole a truck - in order to be punctual for his trial on charges of stealing a car! Michael Heller had no transportation to his pending court date, and no way of postponing it, so he jumped into the seat of a 1989 Ford Ranger as its owner was working on it, then sped off. Heller didn't make it very far before cops spotted the truck, which had been reported as stolen, and pulled him over to arrest him. The arresting officers didn't give the 21-year-old any credit for having the "drive" to make it to court for the first crime.
