The city of Port Huron wants more homeowners... and in the push to lessen the amount of rentals there are also a couple of programs available towards that end. Local realtor Cheri Smith says for first-time home buyers in the lower to middle income range there are a couple of great programs with incentives built-in so you could purchase a great property. One is called the Urban Pioneer program. Others include the NSP3 which is the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. All have certain economic requirements. Smith says there are many great homes available, especially on the city's south side, and many are the $20-thousand up to $40-thousand dollars range.
