Stupid News for 12/27/13

A Missouri bus driver had a sobering experience last week when he was arrested for sharing his booze with a six-year-old passenger - by throwing a bottle of the stuff and hitting the child in the face. Brian Starks, who worked for a St. Louis area day care center, allegedly winged the bottle at little Malachi Bender when a group of kids got rowdy – hitting him in the mouth and leaving him with a swollen lip. Starks, who claims the whole thing was just an accident, then tried to bribe Malachi into silence with a soda and a pouch of beef jerky - a payoff that wasn't enough to keep the kid quiet. Starks could face criminal assault charges.

A South Carolina man was stabbed Christmas Day after an argument with his fiancé over their wedding colors. Deputies responded to a home  and found the man had been stabbed in the upper body. Deputies were able to determine that a verbal altercation occurred between the couple over the wedding color scheme. The man tried to leave the home and that's when 34-year-old Krysta James stabbed the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital by witnesses at the scene and treated for non-life threatening injuries. James was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, Wilson said.

Five teenagers were arrested when a 600-person brawl broke out in a Florida movie theater's parking lot on Christmas night. Described by police as a "melee," the fight occurred outside the theater when a group tried to storm the theater's doors without purchasing tickets. Several had rushed an off-duty police officer working as a security guard who administered pepper spray to disperse the group, locked the according to a rep for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Soon after the pepper spray was used, "upward of 600 people moving throughout a parking lot about the size of a football field began fighting, disrupting and jumping on cars," she said.  Sixty-two police officers were called to the scene to break up the brawl, "sequestering them and separating them," Smith said. Only minor injuries and damage were reported.
