Stupid News for 3/3/14

A 69-year-old man was arrested in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., for allegedly trying to pick a fight with a police officer, officials said. John McCormick allegedly approached the officer, poked him in the nose and said, "You want to talk to me? Let's talk." McCormick then allegedly repeated his action and the officer responded by pushing him to the ground, telling him to roll onto his stomach and put his hands behind his back, the arrest report said. McCormick said "Let's go," and challenged the officer to a fight. When the officer pulled out his Taser, McCormick allegedly tried to grab it. The officer then stepped back and stunned him. McCormick was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A Florida woman said she is suing the background check service that used her mug shot photo, taken after a 2010 DUI arrest, in an advertisement. Meagan Simmons' photograph was included in a presentation of good-looking mug shots on the television program "Inside Edition," and Simmons became known on the Internet as "the attractive convict" and provided interviews with media after her photo became famous. Simmons filed a lawsuit last week against the background check service InstantCheckmate.com., claiming the business used her photo for commercial gain in an advertisement, without compensation or consent.

A California man is trying to have his way with McDonald’s and super-size his bank account after filing a $1.5 million lawsuit that claims he was only given one napkin when he ordered a Quarter Pounder Deluxe. Webster Lucas claims that when he complained to the manager, he was told he had already been given his allotment of napkins. He said, "I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat." Lucas emailed the general manager to complain about the “undue mental anguish" he was suffering, and was offered free burgers as compensation.
