Stupid News for 7/3/14

A Florida man was charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly shot his son while the younger man attempted to make a very slow getaway on a riding mower. Marshall Harmon and his son apparently got into an argument at a nearby home so Harmon's son jumped on a riding mower and started to drive away. The elder Harmon followed in his pickup truck and gave chase. When Harmon was able to pull his truck up beside the mower, he allegedly fired two shots in his son's direction. One of the shots hit his son in the neck and he was taken to the hospital with a non life-threatening injury. Police said that it didn't "immediately appear that Harmon intended to shoot his son, but may have instead accidentally hit him." Harmon did not protest while being taken into custody.

A 56 year old Florida woman was arrested after her 25-year-old friend told police that she chased him around with a knife and cane after he rejected her sexual advances. The man was hanging out with Elizabeth Highley at her home and drinking wine when she started to put the moves on him. According to the man, when he rejected her proposition, she "got angry and lost control." Highley's friend took off after she allegedly began chasing him around with a cane and a hunting knife. A deputy who was at a nearby convenience store saw Highley run by "with a knife in one hand and what appeared to be a broken walking cane in the other." Highley dropped the weapons and she was taken into custody. According to the arrest report, Highley reeked of alcohol and "didn't appear to care that she was going to jail."

A Utah woman was arrested by police after she allegedly attempted to purchase crystal meth from an off-duty police officer. During the attempt, Heather Rodriguez allegedly pulled a glass pipe that was coated with meth residue from her brassiere. When officers who were on the clock arrived, she allegedly told police that she was trying to buy meth for her sister for her birthday because she requested the illegal substance as a gift. She also said that she was holding the meth pipe for a friend and it didn't belong to her, the Daily Herald reported. Rodriguez was booked on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug-free zone and attempted possession of meth for distribution.
