RESIDENTS REMINDED OF BEING PREPARED FOR VACATION

Like it or not, July and August are one of the worst times of the year for home burglaries.  Law enforcement officials say a home is broken into every 14 seconds, and many of those break-ins take place when you go on vacation.  St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says safety tips come down to common sense, such as making sure everything's locked up, timers are used for indoor lamps and outside lighting, and letting your neighbor or a friend know that you'll be out of town for awhile so they cane check up on your home.. and if they see something amiss they need to let the authorities know as quickly as possible. The Sheriff says another tip is you should never announce your vacation plans on social media, as criminals search for that information.  Also, burglars pick up on clues like piled-up mail and uncut grass.
