COMMISSIONERS REVIEW SEVERAL ITEMS AT MEETING

No nuke waste  for Lake Huron.  That's the word from the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners, approving a resolution opposed to Ontario Power Generation's proposal of building a low-level nuclear waste dump near Lake Huron.  The controversial item has seen opposition mounting on both sides of the border, with the Michigan Senate passing legislation against the action and calling on the federal government and others to help put a stop to the proposal.  Local State Senator Phil Pavlov spoke at Thursday evening's committee sessions for the county board, saying further action is expected next month. The board also last night, along with Greenwood Township Officials, spoke about having Pavlov and the State Attorney General look into the matter of using library and parks and recreation millage funds to purchase the former Art Van building. In other business a public hearing was held on the use of off road vehicles...an item not expected to see action on in the near future.
