The director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has resigned following initial findings of a task force looking into the handling of the Flint water crises. Governor Rick Snyder issued a statement Tuesday, saying MDEQ Director Dan Wyant offered his resignation and the governor accepted it. Snyder says he’s also making other personnel changes at the MDEQ to address problems cited by the task force. Senate Democrat Leader Jim Ananick, who represents Flint, says if the personnel changes lead to a more aggressive response and resources to improve public health, then they’re making progress. However, he still believes there should be legislative hearings on the Flint water issue. Flint switched its water source from the Detroit system to the Flint River while under state emergency management. The change is attributed to a spike in lead levels in city water. Flint has since switched back to Detroit water.
